چکیده
Abstract We investigate tropical cyclone (TC) activity and intensity within a 100 km radius of Bermuda between 1955 2019. The results show more easterly genesis over time significant increasing trends in TC (maximum wind speed (Vmax)) with decadal Vmax median value increase 30 kts from 33 to 63 ( r = 0.94, p 0.02), together August, September, October sea surface temperature (SST) 1.1 °C (0.17 per decade) 0.4 < 0.01) average ocean 0.5 0.7 (0.08 °C–0.1 0.3( the depth range 0–300 m. strongest correlation is found averaged through top 50 m layer T 50 m ‾ ) 0.37 0.01). how potential (PI) estimates are closer actual by using {{T_{50\,{\text{m}}}}} 50 as opposed SST Hydrostation S time-series. modify widely used PI index provide estimate observed minimum level pressure (MSLP), associated than SST, creating { }$?> _PI) index. MSLP difference reduced 12 mb proportional 0.74, SST/ difference. also suggest could be wider area subtropical/tropical Atlantic where there shallow mixed depth.

The Effect of the Ocean Eddy on Tropical Cyclone Intensity
It has been widely recognized that the ocean supplies surface heat fluxes and therefore energy to tropical cyclones (TCs). The TC can induce the sea surface temperature (SST) cooling (Price 1981) associated with both the entrainment/mixing and upwelling processes. In turn, the SST cooling near the storm core exerts influence on the TC intensity. This negative feedback to the TC intensity is cle...

[1] The responses of tropical cyclone (TC) potential intensity (PI) and the associated environmental control parameters over the North Indian Ocean (NIO) to the doubled CO2 concentration are assessed based on the ensemble simulation from 15 coupled general circulation models (CGCMs) participated in the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) Forth Assessment Report (AR4). The results ...
متن کاملInfluence of local and remote SST on North Atlantic tropical cyclone potential intensity
We examine the role of local and remote sea surface temperature (SST) on the tropical cyclone potential intensity in the North Atlantic using a suite of model simulations, while separating the impact of anthropogenic (external) forcing and the internal influence of Atlantic Multidecadal Variability. To enable the separation by SST region of influence we use an ensemble of global atmospheric cli...
متن کاملThe Dvorak Tropical Cyclone Intensity Estimation Technique
T HE DVORAK TECHNIQUE LEGACY. The Dvorak tropical cyclone (TC) intensity estimation technique has been the primary method of monitoring tropical systems for more than three decades. The technique has likely saved tens of thousands of lives in regions where over one billion people are directly affected by TCs (commonly called hurricanes, typhoons, or cyclones). The Dvorak technique’s practical a...
متن کاملHuman influence on tropical cyclone intensity.
Recent assessments agree that tropical cyclone intensity should increase as the climate warms. Less agreement exists on the detection of recent historical trends in tropical cyclone intensity. We interpret future and recent historical trends by using the theory of potential intensity, which predicts the maximum intensity achievable by a tropical cyclone in a given local environment. Although gr...
